James and Deanna Spencer of 4148 Long Rapids Rd., Alpena, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a party for 80 family members and friends.

The party was hosted by their children and spouses Sept. 5 at Maple Ridge Township Hall. Sharing in the celebration were two of the original wedding party members: Rhoud Piechan (best man) and Larry Kitter (ring bearer).

Mr. Spencer and the former Deanna Piechan were married at Hope Lutheran Church of Hawks on Sept. 5, 1959.

The couple's children are Jim (Sandra) Spencer of Alto and Julie (Mike) Preuss of Alpena. They have five grandchildren: Matthew (Nicole) Spencer of Comstock Park, Michael Preuss of Kentwood, Lisa Preuss of Grandville, Mitchell Spencer of Alto and Nikki Preuss of Sault Ste. Marie.

Jim is a retired contractor/builder from Spencer Builders and Deanna is a retired registered nurse from Alpena Regional Medical Center.

The couple also celebrated early with a Valentine's Day cruise to Mexico.
